About

Rustin Moore, Assistant Vice President of People and Culture at Donohoe Hospitality Services

Rustin Moore learned leadership where most hotel people do: on the floor, at every hour, solving whatever walked through the front door.

He spent nearly two decades running hotels. Before joining Donohoe Hospitality Services, he operated independent, full service, lifestyle, and extended stay properties with Marriott. At Donohoe, he served as General Manager of Hyatt and Marriott branded hotels before moving into human resources leadership.

Today he is Assistant Vice President of People and Culture at Donohoe, with oversight of hotel level HR across a portfolio of 20 properties in Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland, and Nevada. Recruiting, recognition, retention, and the digital platforms that connect them all sit on his desk. He came to HR as an operator, and it shows. Policy gets written with the General Manager’s world in mind, because he has lived in it.

His work reaches well past the hotel lobby. He serves on the board of the DC Workforce Investment Council, the District’s workforce board, and on the board of the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging and Travel Association. He is a member of the American Hotel & Lodging Association’s Human Resources Committee, a founding member of the Hire Local DC Hospitality Sector Partnership, and has taught hospitality at Academy of Hope, an adult public charter school in the District.

A Howard University business graduate, Rustin spent his early career building media production and social media ventures, including work with Alumni Roundup, a platform for HBCU alumni stories. Away from the office, he is usually on the water before sunrise, in a duck blind or with a line in. Both pursuits reward the same thing good leadership does: knowing when to wait.
